The service, then-named HBO Max, officially launched on May 27, 2020 under AT&T's WarnerMedia.[1]
In July 2020, it was announced that the first two seasons of Harley Quinn would arrive at HBO Max[2] contributing to the speculations that DC Universe, the current home of Harley Quinn would soon be put out and all original content would migrate to HBO Max.
The speculations were confirmed on September 18, 2020, when it was announced that DC Universe would "transform" as of January 21, 2021 into "DC Universe Infinite", a comics-only service, and that all the DC Universe original series, including Harley Quinn, would migrate to HBO Max.[3] At the same day, Harley Quinn was announced to have been renewed for a third season which would be premiering on HBO Max.[4]
In April 2022, HBO Max's owner WarnerMedia merged with Discovery, Inc., forming a new company under the name of Warner Bros. Discovery. Higher-ups at the company confirmed that the merge of the two companies would result in their respective streaming services, HBO Max and Discovery+, merging into a combined streaming service. The merger was finalized in May 2023 when HBO Max was relaunched under the name Max.[5] Season 4 of Harley Quinn premiered on the newly-named Max on July 27, 2023.[6] The spin-off series of Harley Quinn, Kite Man: Hell Yeah! premiered on Max on July 18, 2024.[7] Season 5 of Harley Quinn premiered on Max on January 16, 2025.[8]
