Koko is Brainiac's dead pet monkey-like alien.

Biography[]

Background[]

Koko was Brainiac's family pet.

"Floronic Man"[]

Koko leaps onto Brainiac's shoulder after he abducts Harley and Ivy onto his Skull Ship and asks what they should do with them.

"Breaking Brainiac"[]

In Brainiac's origin story, Koko tries to touch Brainiac, who went by Vrill then, food, but is constantly stopped by Vrill. He later appears, picking up a chip off the floor, and gags at Brainiac and his Wife's dancing.

Riding his Skull Ship to the planet Bryak to steal its Hyper-Ray, Vrill learns that Koko had stowed away on his ship.

After Vrill successfully steals the Hyper-Ray from Bryak, they return to Colu to discover it has become a desolate ruin. Koko then assists Vrill in searching the ruins for any trace of his family, only to discover their remains. He joins Vrill in his conquest, raging against the cosmos.

Years later, Koko suggests that they salvage the advanced municipality of Krypton's most perfect city, Cantor, and Vrill decides to go through with it. Once Vrill optimizes Candor to maximum perfection, Koko notes that time will destroy its perfection, but Vrill notes that he realizes that time will destroy its perfection. He can't freeze time, but after looking at the Hyper-Ray, he reconsiders that thought and uses it on Candor.

Realizing his newfound destiny, Vrill tells Koko they'll be putting his newfound destiny into action.

More years go by, and Vrill calls out to Koko, but he doesn't appear, so he watches a dirty video until Koko arrives. Vrill then laments his self-conscious concerns about outliving his usefulness. However, the discovery of Earth and Metropolis changes this.

In the present, Koko leaps onto Brainiac's shoulder and notes that out of all of the planets they've been to, none of the inhabitants were like Harley and Ivy.

A remark by Koko makes Brainiac realize that he still has his intercom on. He incapacitates Ivy and teleports Harley to his control room. There, Harley reveals that Koko was no more than a pile of skeletal remains that laid beside his chair.

"Bottle My Heart"[]

As Brainiac and Lena observe Lois quitting the Daily Planet, Koko, speaking through Brainiac, tells Lena that it wouldn't happen if Brainiac had allowed her to kill Harley. However, Lena argues that Koko is dead and is nothing more than skeletal remains that Brainiac keeps around. Furious by Lena's remarks toward Koko, Brainiac ends his alliance with Lena and consoles Koko.

For Clayface's play of Brainiac's story, a homeless person was originally set to play Koko, but Frank ate him, forcing him to take over as Koko.

From his ship, Brainiac watched the play and made him realize that Koko was dead and that he had gone, to his own admission, crazy.

"Frankette"[]

Koko's remains appear on Brainiac's ship as Brainiac laments over his passing and his realization that he's insane.

"The Mess is the Point"[]

Koko appears as a visual memory of Brainiac alongside his son and wife who convince him to have Harley and her group return to Earth.
