Synopsis[]

Despite closing the door on her academic trauma, Ivy's past still haunts her. Clayface confronts the Daily Planet's top brass after a bad review.

Plot[]

Clayface performs a one-man show in Metropolis for a limited audience.

Eventually, Clayface stands by a newsstand waiting for the delivery of the Daily Planet, which will feature a review of his one-man show. Once it arrived, Clayface was surprised he didn't make the front page that featured the death of Professor Woodrue instead. However, he's left shocked by the two reviews of his show, which were lackluster and harsh toward him, so Clayface decides to confront Perry White over them.

Ivy has a nightmare about Woodrue over what she did to him in the university lab, and Woodrue proclaims that it's not over between them, causing her to wake up in shock.

In the kitchen, Harley offers Ivy a cup of coffee but then lambasts her for killing her ex-boyfriend, Woodrue. Ivy then explains to Harley about how she killed him in the same way he tried to kill her. Harley then snatches away her toast, drops it into the sink, and then puts away her plate in the washer, claiming she didn't tell her. Understanding that Harley was upset over withholding what had happened at the university, Ivy tried to clarify, but Harley was upset about her withholding the most traumatic incident in her life. This leads Harley and Ivy to try to process what happened between Ivy and Woodrue, along with Harley's thoughts. However, Ivy had to cut their conversation short because she met with the Green Initiative and her need to use the toilet.

At the Daily Planet, Perry screams at Lois in his office over the Woodrue incident, and Lois tries to claim what he's complaining about is what she was trying to tell him. Clayface then barges into the room, demanding to speak to the editor-in-chief, who is Perry. He demands a retraction, and Lois wishes Clayface luck as she takes her leave. Clayface reads off a bad review written in his paper and calls it an insult to the art, but Perry refuses. So Clayface suggests that Perry attend his show that night and write an unbiased review of his own, but Perry suggests that Clayface write his own. Taking delight at the suggestion, Clayface knocks out Perry with his computer screen.

Ivy overhears a Grad Student to another student talk about the death of Woodrue, leaving her to feel self-conscious. During her meeting, Ivy presents her plan for the Metropolis Green Initiative to the attendees. Harley soon arrived and tried to support Ivy, who, as she continued her presentation, visions of Woodrue haunted Ivy, making her cut the presentation short.

Outside in the hallway, Harley tries to talk with Ivy, who is trying to process what is happening to her. Harley suggests they eat lunch together. However, Ivy decides to discover what's going on with herself by diving into the Green. Disappointed, Harley tells Ivy she'll eat lunch alone, and Ivy thanks her for understanding.

Inside an empty office room, Ivy finds a plant on a desk covered with some yellow liquid she finds disgusting. She then sits on the desk and meditates into the Green. There, Ivy is in a field of flowers where she says Jason is dead. As she lies on the field, a flower grabs her attention and leads her to a white oak tree.

It's then that the sky becomes clouded and yellow, and from the tree, Woodrue spawns from the white oak tree as a humanoid plant mutant. Ivy calls Woodrue, Jason; however, he corrects Ivy, stating he goes by Floronic Man now. Floronic Man admits that he was originally pissed that Ivy caused him to change into the mutant that he was then, but realizes that's what she wanted him to become.

Summoning vines, Ivy uses them against Floronic Man, but although she impales him with it, Floronic Man is proven to be too powerful for her. Surrounded by thorny branches, Ivy asks why Floronic Man is doing this, and Floronic Man claims that it's not to take over the world or Metropolis but simply to kill her.

Outside the office, Harley tries to speak with Ivy from outside the office door and learns that she is in trouble.

From Clayface's apartment, he kidnaps Perry and tucks him away in his suitcase, where he uses a typewriter to draft his own unbiased review of his one-man show. However, what he writes subconsciously tells him he needs someone else to write for him. Hence, Clayface enlists the help of Bane, who complains that it took three trains and other modes of transportation to reach his apartment. Inspired by Bane's blog post, Clayface wanted Bane to assist him in writing an unbiased review using his impeccable grammar skills and Clayface's massive vocabulary. The two then collaborate on writing Clayface's review for his one-man show. Once it is complete, Clayface transforms into Perry and promises to publish the review as the real Perry complains that he doesn't sound like Clayface portrayed him.

Unable to free Ivy from her plant constraints, Harley searches through her phone for someone who can help her and contacts Frank, who delves into the Green and sees that Ivy is under Floronic Man's mercy.

In reality, Frank informs Harley about Ivy's predicament involving Floronic Man, who Ivy called Jason. Harley recognizes the name as Ivy's ex, who is dead, but Frank denies that. Frank suggests that Harley find Floronic Man's body and destroy it while he returns to the Green and assists Ivy in defending herself against Floronic Man.

At the Daily Planet, Clayface impersonating Perry informs employees that Bane wrote a fantastic review of Clayface's one-man show. Entering Perry's office, Lois and Jimmy tell "Perry" about something fishy in the city, and "Perry" thinks it's Clayface's one-man show, but Lois denies it's that. She reports sightings of a UFO, and Jimmy admits almost getting a picture of it, but sadly, his lens cap was on. Lois rebukes Jimmy and then talks about people having nightmares about a skull and argues the possibility of a story is a miss. Still, "Perry" doesn't care about it and is more focused on Clayface. Bane then barges into the office and asks about the dental plan, and "Perry" introduces Bane as the new lead columnist. Lois found this appalling, and Jimmy took a picture of Bane.

Inside the Green, Frank arrives to help Ivy fight against Floronic Man, and he recognizes Frank as the baby plant from the lab. Overpowering both Ivy and Frank, Floronic Man was killed in reality by Harley, who used a mini-power-saw to slice him up into pieces.

Later, Ivy and Harley reunite in the lab that Floronic Man was in and have a heart-to-heart about their past tension concerning Ivy's secrets.

Moments after this, Automation Sentries surround Harley and Ivy, and after they transform, they teleport them onto Brainiac's Skull Ship. There, Brainiac watches from a video feed the bewildered Harley and Ivy, pondering to his pet space monkey, Koko what he'll do with them.
