The Book of Fables is an ancient tome that the Queen of Fables used in her criminal activities. Though it has the appearance of an innocent storybook, it is in fact a portal to an alternate dimension home to all the classic fairytale characters we know.
History[]
Back in the 1980s the Queen of Fables used the Book of Fables to summon an army of fairy tale creatures which she used to take over Gotham City before she was stopped by the Justice League and imprisoned in a tax-code book as punishment.
When Queen of Fables was finally released from the book and sentenced to life in Arkham Asylum, she was rescued by Harley Quinn and continued to use the book for her criminal purposes. Among other creatures, she summoned Cinderella's mouse to aide Harley and her crew on a mission. Fables eventually got revenge on the Justice League by trapping them all in the book.
At some point after Fables supposed death, The Joker got his hands on the book and as he had been turned "normal" and lost all his memories, he believed it to be a normal fairy tale book and used it to read stories to his step-children, Benicio and Sofia. Once he regained his memories, Harley forced the Joker to lead her to the book and they went to her girlfriend, Bethany's house where they eventually retrieved the book and freed the Justice League.
