I want a divorce.
— Barbara Gordon Sr.[src]

Barbara Gordon Sr., or simply Barbara Gordon, is the ex-wife of Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon and the mother of Barbara Gordon Jr..

Biography[]

Season 1[]

Barbara was mentioned by Jim Gordon numerous times during the first season where he often referenced their relationship as deteriorating. Most notably in "You're a Damn Good Cop, Jim Gordon" when he revealed that Barbara had started sleeping with someone else and no longer wanted to touch him.

Season 2[]

She was first seen, albeit only by her back, during "New Gotham" where Jim was reaching his lowest point after Gotham City was thrown into chaos by the Joker's man-made earthquake and Batman's disappearance. Earlier that night, Gordon had been driving around while shining the Bat-Signal on a truck, when he was ambushed by his men from GCPD, who had become lackeys for Bane, causing Gordon to lose hope and throw his badge into Gotham harbor.

Eventually, he made it home and got into bed with Barbara. He eventually sat up and bed and told himself not to lose hope, telling Barbara to go to her brother's house and get his old scuba gear and then proceed to help Gordon fish his badge out of Gotham harbor. He then declared that their house would serve as the new GCPD headquarters, with him still retaining the role of Commissioner. He suggested deputizing Barbara, with the two of them serving as "husband and wife cops" who would clean up the city together. Barbara then retorted that she wanted a divorce before clapping her hands and shutting off the lights in the room. Gordon became bereft of hope once more, calling out for Batman.

The Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour[]

In "Journey to Love Part 2", while Jim Gordon is listening in on Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's conversation, he begins to fall into a monologue about his current relationship with his wife. According to him, Barbara was still cheating on him, and she wasn't hiding it anymore, while still giving Gordon pity sex. Gordon also implies that he's started getting boils, polyps, and herpes from his wife's affairs, but he doesn't care because he still loves her and wants her to be happy.

Season 3[]

In "Harlivy", it is confirmed that Jim and Barbara have divorced. Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn then use the pretense of Barbara having enabled a $90,000 lien on their house to trick Jim into giving up his credit card numbers, pretending to be "Missus and Missus Gordon" while stacking up charges on his credit card.

In "Joker: The Killing Vote" Jim and Barbara's daughter tells Jim that he has to choose between losing her support or firing Two-Face as his campaign manager. In response, Jim casually retorts "What is it with women in this family and ultimatums?", a clear jab at his ex-wife, before making his support of Two-Face clear.

Season 4[]

From the ashes that are my career, a fiery, bosomy phoenix has risen. And that phoenix is you, Barbara
Jim Gordon to Barbara

In "Getting Ice Dick, Don't Wait Up", Barbara and Jim had seemingly reconciled following Jim loosing his job as Police Commissioner after Mayor Joker disbanded the police. They were spending a romantic evening in a cabin for the first time in 20 years, before rolling on top of him. However, at that moment, Jim's phone rang and he excused himself to answer while Barbara waited patently in the background. After getting a job offer, Jim excitedly stated to leave while Barbara, annoyed, asked how she was supposed to get down with him riding off on their snow scooter.

She later called her daughter to come rescue her but soon abandoned her to go party with the "ice villains" (Captain Cold, Icicle, Blue Snowman and Minister Blizzard who also were in the mountains on vacation), leaving her a note reading "Getting ice dick, don't wait up".
